PKR: No agreement in place for Dr M to lead Opposition coalition

PETALING JAYA: PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil has denied that the party has agreed to have Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad lead the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

"Discussions are ongoing and any official announcements about the structure will be made officially through the Pakatan Harapan presidential council," he told The Star on Thursday.

Fahmi denied a news portal's report claiming that PKR's political bureau had agreed for the former prime minister and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman to head the Pakatan pro-tem committee. It also reported that Dr Mahathir would be chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail would be the president.

It also said that PKR's de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be the coalition's adviser while Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Pribumi president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali would all be deputy presidents.

The decision was said to have been made at a PKR political bureau meeting Wednesday night.

The Pakatan presidential council is due to meet on Friday.
