KUALA LUMPUR: Umno and Barisan Nasional have had enough of being associated with the scandal-riddled 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), says Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).
He said the party no longer wanted to "carry the living carcass" of 1MDB.
The former Umno Youth chief said it was good that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng filed a motion in Parliament for the Auditor-General and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to re-open investigations into 1MDB and to urge for all information regarding the probe to be made public.
"We want to make sure that the people get the truth about 1MDB. We want to ensure that we are free of this burden and the only way to do that is to carry out an open investigation via PAC and, of course, a thorough investigation.
"As former Cabinet ministers, there were also things that we were not told, so we want to find out as well.
"We didn't know about these before. There are things that were hidden from us," he told a press conference here after launching a store in KL Citywalk here yesterday.
Khairy said former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tried to explain 1MDB as best as possible but then there were other things which happened that the Cabinet was never made privy, too. He cited as an example Lim's revelation that the previous administration had paid 1MDB debts.
Khairy also congratulated Pakatan Harapan for its first 100 days in government but said people did not care if it fulfilled its promises or not.
"I think the 100 days thing is not important because Malaysians are not really bothered whether Pakatan fulfilled its promises.
"All they wanted was for Najib and Barisan to go. But as the Opposition now, we will remind Pakatan about their promises and make sure they implement whatever they promised," said Khairy.
On Barisan's performance as the Opposition, Khairy said it passed without distinction.
"We still have much room for improvement in terms of our debates and our skills in being the Opposition," he said.

Sepatutnya umno kena lakukan begitu sebelum pru lalu lagi..
