PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan's manifesto was written to fool the rakyat, without any intention of implementing its promises, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The former prime minister said there was a lot of fuss yesterday (Oct 12), when Pakatan's chairman admitted that they did not think they would win in GE14 when they wrote the manifesto.
"Let me translate it. The real meaning behind it (what the chairman said) is that they had no intention of fulfilling the pledges in the manifesto.
"It is akin to a man who would promise the stars and the moon when wooing a woman, but after marriage, he would have nothing to show for it," he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct 13).
Pakatan's manifesto is a direct contrast to that of Barisan Nasional, he added.
"When we unveiled a manifesto, we had every intention of fulfilling it.
"Behind the insult of "Janji Dicapati" (broken promises) by the then opposition, our records show that most of our promises have been fulfilled," he said.
The Pekan MP said the Pakatan government did not even try to fulfil the pledges written in their manifesto, but instead they came up with excuses.
"'Membina Negara Memenuhi Harapan dah jadi Membinasakan Negara Memusnahkan Harapan' (Building the country and fulfilling all hopes have become destroying the country and hopes)," he said.
Najib said he discussed with almost all Mentri Besars and chief ministers, as well as ministries when preparing Barisan's manifesto.
"This is because we want to see what we can give the rakyat, based on the country's financial means.
"Up to a few hours before the announcement (of the manifesto), I was still scrutinising and correcting a few aspects, including adding more BR1M at the last minute," he said, adding that even his ministers were shocked over the last minute additions.
Similar to the year budget announcement, I always stay true to "firman Allah" in Surah Al-Maidah, verse 1, when preparing the manifesto: "Wahai orang yang beriman, penuhi serta sempurnakanlah perjanjian-perjanjian." (To the faithful, fulfil and carry out all promises).
